Site update summer 2010
If you are a regular visitor you will have noticed that the Appearance and organisation of the site has not been all that it could for the last few months.
Just before Christmas we changed the way the site was being hosted in order to make certain upgrades possible, this requited the transfer of site files which proved less simple than expected as the actual publishing was being managed through a design package. The changes also came at a time when the previous webmaster, Kate, had other commitments so was unable to devote the time needed to sort out the maze of files and myriad styles that had been created in the background as the site had been added to over time.
At the end of April I agreed to take over and rebuild the site. Rather than try to sort out what was already there I decided to take the actual content from the previous versions but build the pages from scratch. This has allowed me to simplify the code and remove a lot of double and triple redundancy and keep the styling consistent. While most of this work is invisible to visitors it makes it far easier to make changes and keep the site up to date.
Like everybody else I have to fit maintaining and updating this site in amongst many other projects but the bulk of the work is now complete so I can concentrate on updates and improvements.

Hogmanay party 2008/9 at the Campanile Hotel, Glasgow
Letter from Jackie Millan, Chairperson of Short Stature Scotland:
Hi everyone,
My apologies for not writing this sooner, I have had a few personal things to deal with. For those of you I did not see at our Hogmanay Party, I would like to wish you a very Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
I know this was our 3rd New Year event; however, this was our first under our new group, Short Stature Scotland. This year, we had approximately 138 people attend. We had a few cancellations due to the terrible flu that was going round. For those of you that did attend, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
Repeatedly, I thank Marika, and her staff for their hospitality. They give us such a warm and personal welcome. The prices they give us for our stay and food are outstanding for that time of year.
For a second time, we had our piper, Greg. This year, we had not one but two ‘first footers,’ Robert and Stephen. Our DJ, George gave us some good music and stayed on for those of you who never want the party to end. On behalf of the committee and its members, we would like to give you a big Thank You!
Personally, I would like to give a huge thank you to my committee and members of our group for their help in selling tickets and their contributions to the raffle draw we had on the night. We raised £893.00 - £244.49 (spent on our 3 top prizes) = £648.51 profit.
If any of you wish to write about your experiences of any of the events that you have come along to, please do not hesitate. This helps people to realise that they are not alone in their apprehension of coming along to meet people of short stature for the first time. Please send any contributions for our website to Kate Lawrence, our webmaster.
For those of you, who have not joined or come along to any of our events, please do not hesitate. We will give you a warm welcome and ease your apprehension.
Please check the website regularly to see our future events etc.
Take care and hope to see you all in 2009.
Jackie

Coffee morning at Yorkhill, 2/2/08
The location was the Seminar room on the first floor. There was a good enough turnout for all seats to be taken. There were lots of biscuits and cake - much to the delight of the children! There were four little children to begin with, then a couple of late arrivals later along with AH (average height) siblings. There were mums, dads, and grandparents; it was a real family affair. We all chatted about different things - getting used to the surprise of having a child with a restricted growth condition, plans for Shortbread, and family life in general. Liz Dougan (OT at Yorkhill) mentioned plans for a Skeletal Dysplasia working group at the hospital with a more specialised team. We thought this would be a good idea and look forward to further developments in that area..
People went on to Braehead after to give the kids more room to run around. I think that a good time was had by all.
